About

Lena Newton is a set designer, whose work has appeared in Germany and in the Netherlands. She was born in Munich and is based in Rotterdam. She studied at Gerrit Rietveld Academy Amsterdam, and received her MA from Piet Zwart Institute Rotterdam. Since 2019 Lena has been Professor of Bühnenbild at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf.

Work with director Susanne Kennedy at The National Theatre The Hague, at Staatstheater Oldenburg, at Münchner Kammerspiele and most recently at Volksbühne Berlin; with director Sarah Moeremans at De Brakke Grond, Amsterdam, Generale Oost in Arnhem and at Tryater in Leeuwarden; with director Jaap Spijkers at The National Theatre The Hague; at Schauspiel Hannover in cooperation with Annette Kurz, director Luk Perceval; with director Maren E. Bjorseth at Frascati Amsterdam, and with director Davy Pieters at Theater Rotterdam and mugmetdegoudentand Amsterdam. As a video designer, Lena Newton worked with director Eric de Vroedt at Schauspielhaus Bochum.

The plays Fegefeuer in Ingolstadt (directed by Susanne Kennedy at Münchner Kammerspiele 2012) and Warum Läuft Herr R. Amok? (directed by Susanne Kennedy at Münchner Kammerspiele 2014) were selected for the Theatertreffen in Berlin.
